Tom Van den Brulle was born in Seattle/USA in 1970 to Belgian parents. He completed his law studies in 1995 (universities: Freiburg/Breisgau, Sheffield, Munich) and was admitted as attorney-at-law to the bar in 1997. He started his career with Munich Re in 1998 in various underwriting positions in Munich and in Paris until 2006. Tom Van den Brulle received an MBA from Paris business school ESCP-EAP in 2002. 

In 2007, Tom was responsible for strategy and M&A-operations in the reinsurance sector before taking a Management position for Casualty Underwriting in 2008. In 2011 he became CEO of Munich Re, Milan followed by a worldwide responsibility for Health Reinsurance business of the group. 

In May 2017 he assumed the role of “Global Head of Innovation” with the overall goal of steering innovation projects worldwide. He oversees the ideation process and the development of new business models/ distribution channels and is responsible for external partnerships as well as investments in start-ups.
